Acclaim Records was specifically established to satisfy the growing demand from a small number of enthusiasts of light music used on BBC television. Because of complex contractual agreements none of this music was commercially available to buy in the shops. But it had a bigger audience than those who would listen to it on wireless programmes such as Start The Day Right... over on the television, many hours each day were handed over to the Trade Test Transmission. This, you will recall, featured that funny pattern which didn't move but to many, made quite appealing noises.

Some of us wrote to the BBC in those far off black and white days asking about these musical gems only to be dismissed with a curt and disappointing "You can't have it: it's not available to the public".

Well, now some of it is.

I confess to being one of those small boys who wrote to the BBC: so it really does now give me great pleasure to able to say to those others who share my fondness for some of these great tunes, "Come and get it!".

 Acclaim is a (very!) small cottage industry label, so it is possible to make small runs of these CDs worthwhile and therefore available.

I've tried to make it all as easy as possible whilst keeping the costs down as much as I can: so this might not be the most hi-tech website you'll come across. But if you're an enthusiast I guess you'll have no problem.
